Computer Museum of America Event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cray Research with a celebration of the life and contributions of Seymour Cray by “Kickin’ It Back to the CRAY-Z 70s”.
Return to the CRAY-Z 70s at CMoA and Celebrate the Legacy of Seymour Cray on October 14th. Guests are invited to dress up in their favorite 70s attire, dance to the sounds of the 70s, enjoy complimentary “bytes,” a cash bar, and roam freely through the exhibits.

ROSWELL, GA. (August 10, 2022) – The Computer Museum of America (CMoA), one of the Atlanta area’s most unique museums showcasing a comprehensive collection of artifacts from the digital revolution, will host a 1970s party to celebrate the legacy of Seymour Cray and the 50th anniversary of Cray Research.

Seymour Cray is often referred to as The Father of Supercomputing. He was a hard-charging, soft-spoken, entrepreneur who garnered incredible respect for his work on the first supercomputers. His creative process was far from traditional. To work through problems, he famously dug tunnels until the solution presented itself. He often came to work mid-morning and in casual dress which was unheard of in the 1960s. He founded Cray research in 1972.
CMoA has one of the largest collections of Cray Supercomputers in the world. The CRAY-1A on display came from the Max Planck Institute in Germany and is number 13 of the estimated 15 produced. In addition to the four CRAY-1 models, CMoA has many other CRAYs with plans to unveil an XC40 and XT/XK6 in October. The XT/XK6 was one of the most powerful and longest-tenured supercomputers in history.

Opened in 2019 with four exhibits – A Tribute to Apollo 11, Supercomputing: Vanquishing the Impossible, STEAM Timeline of Computing and Technology History, and The Byte Magazine Collection – CMoA continues to unveil major new exhibits such as a fully restored and operational Enigma machine, the World War II-era cipher computer made famous in the 2014 film The Imitation Game about the revolutionary code-breaking work by Alan Turing, the NASA owned Cray-2 exhibit which opened in 2021, and Computers in the Movies which opened in 2022.
CMoA has worked with educational institutions, museums, and film companies with technology-related exhibits and artifacts including the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Smithsonian Institution and is committed to the preservation of computing devices, documents, and technology in order to exhibit, educate, and encourage future innovation. The museum is currently open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays and is located at 5000 Commerce Pkwy, Roswell, GA 30076.
