Happy New Year! We made it to 2021 and see a small light at the end of this very long tunnel. The vaccine against Covid-19 is being administered and slowly, but surely, we will emerge from this pandemic changed and stronger for the experience.
Computer Museum of America is planning now for STEAM Camps this summer that will serve grades 4 through 8 and we will be bringing back our successful summer reading program, Tech Tales: A Storytime for Young Explorers. Your financial support is going straight into these two programs.
The curriculum being prepared is for two, weeklong camps for rising 4th and 5th graders and two weeklong camps for rising 6th through 8th graders. Each will embrace the CMoA tagline of Innovation Past Forward and be led by an experienced educator. The history of technology lays the groundwork for where we are today and where our children will take us tomorrow.
Last summer we launched Tech Tales with parents, grandparents, and caregivers bringing youngsters in for a fun hour of stories like T-Bone the Drone and Heddy Lamarr’s Double Life. STEAM activities relating to the book selection engaged children in a fun way and got them excited to explore the exhibits at CMoA. We are planning now for new books and more activities.
CMoA Members’ children and grandchildren will be offered a discounted rate for the camps, and free entry for weekly Tech Tales (depending on your membership level). We may be wearing sweaters, coats, and scarves right now, but our thoughts of warmer days ahead are front and center.
These technology-focused camps will be capped at 10 students per week for now but we will revisit that number based on CDC and state guidelines closer to the summer. If you want to be the first to know when registration opens, email us at info@computermuseumofamerica.org and you will be informed when details are finalized in the coming weeks.
If you, or your company, are interested in sponsoring either of these programs, we can provide scholarships to children who might otherwise be unable to experience this type of fun and educational program. Contact us at info@computermuseumofamerica.org for more information.
